Leather Development Forum (LDF) successfully hosted a high-level discussion session on the Status Quo of the Tannery Sector and the Way Forward on 11 November 2025 at Hotel Fars, Dhaka.
The event brought together a diverse group of government officials, industry leaders, trade unions, civil society representatives, and development partners to discuss current challenges and future opportunities in Bangladesh’s leather sector, the country’s second-largest export-oriented industry.

We were honoured to have:
• Chief Guest: Dr. Md. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment
• Chair: Omar Md. Imrul Mohsin, Inspector General (Additional Secretary), DIFE
• Moderator: Firoz Alam, LDF Coordinator

The session included productive dialogues on sectoral constraints, environmental compliance, worker wellbeing, industry competitiveness, and collaborative pathways toward sustainable growth.
LDF appreciates the active engagement of all participants including representatives from MoLE, Ministry of Commerce, BSCIC, CETP Company, Employers Association, TWU, DIFE, and LDF members for their valuable insights and commitment.
Together, we move one step closer to a more resilient, responsible, and future-ready leather sector for Bangladesh.
